Cindy Findley is an accomplished amateur pointing dog trainer and handler. She began training golden retrievers and competed at trials in the late 70's and early 80's. Over the years she has owned, trained, and hunted over several different sporting breeds. Returning to horseback field trial competition with Gordon Setters in 2001, Findley enjoys the challenges and rewards of training her own dogs. She currently competes throughout the nation with Gordon and English Setters, and is actively recruited as a judge. Included among over 100 placements that Cindy and her dogs have earned are: 2003 American Field National Gordon Setter Association Shooting Dog Championship, 2005 Gordon Setter Club of America National Amateur Championship, and 2010 English Setter National Amateur Championship.
Findley's message to recreational dog trainers and owners is based in simplicity and fundamentals: Be patient, be consistent, be prepared, and remember that the two most important words that your dog should hear are "good dog!"
With a Master's degree in Experiential Education, Cindy can be found most often in the outdoors working with young people, or in pursuit of upland game and waterfowl, bowhunting, and working with prairie reconstruction projects. She has conducted hundreds of presentations on a variety of subjects including dog training, youth environmental programs, land stewardship and outdoor ethics.
